The 2009 Valtellina Superiore Riserva Inferno Sesto Canto is a pure expression of Nebbiolo from 50-year-old vines rooted in crushed granite soils. Fermented on the skins for 49 days, it undergoes a long aging process—five years in chestnut barrels and three years in cement vats. With only 6,000 bottles produced, this is a delicate wine of exceptional grace and elegance. The nose reveals subtle notes of cassis, wild rose, and faint hints of ash and stone. The palate is focused and vibrant, offering juicy Marasca cherry, ripe strawberry, star anise, and a touch of tobacco, leading to a flinty, mineral finish. It’s beautifully balanced, with fine, taut tannins and lively acidity.
